Feed Yourself Smarter | Support small business and support your health
I love the concept of supporting small business when shopping for Christmas, no less so this year when many small independents have been suffering the effects of being forced to close their doors. So, I thought I would put together a hand picked list of small businesses whose collections I can personally recommend to support your health or wellbeing. This week I will cover some food and drink ideas, next week I will look wider at skincare and lifestyle brands and products.

Tea Rex Fresh Fruit and Root Infusions
A really simple tip for hydration is to add fresh ginger, lemon or other fruits and roots to the water. The solutes help your body to absorb the water and get it into the cells.  Plus the enhanced flavour makes it easier to remember to drink!
Tea Rex made this idea convenient. They are so much fresher and tastier that a dried tea bag.
I have been involved in helping to develop the concept over the past few years and there are some delicious new flavours coming out very soon. They also have  a brilliant flask which I use all the time.
A great idea for winter drinks or small gift ideas.

Hurly Burly Raw Slaw
A simple way to add some fermented kick to your Christmas dinner. These are really tasty blends that work well as a side serving on the plate.
I did some work for this brand when they were starting out and they have a wonderful array of phytonutrients as well as being high in vitamin K.
A perfect gift for your microbiome.

Three Spirit Drinks
I am all for a little alcoholic cheer this Christmas, but I know that sometimes I want an alternative, yet the alcohol free options can be, well a little on the boring side. This is why I have put Three Spirits on my Christmas list. I have yet to try them, but I have some on order and I LOVE the idea.
Think of this one as a gift for your liver and your brain!

Seaweed & Co.
Participants on my Food for Thought programme this year heard me share the value of sea vegetables and mushrooms in adding to your microbiome diversity and providing specific brain supporting benefits. There are many ways to add Seaweed now, but these oils from Seaweed & Co were one of my finds of 2020
A gift for your microbiome with specific brain supporting benefits.

Nutri Fungi
I am a big fan of the medical mushroom powders from Nutri Fungi.  They have some gorgeous truffle recipes using the powders on their site for a different take on Christmas truffles.
Give a gift of homemade Christmas truffles to support your immunity.

So stay tuned for next week when I will share some gift ideas for skincare and lifestyle brands to treat yourself or others.

In health and festive happiness
