CELEBRATING AGEING SERIES | HOW CAN WE REFRAME AND CELEBRATE AGEING?
08 Feb 2021, Posted by FYS News in
When I was about 8, in reference to my grandparents, I said something along the lines of “they are in their 50s they are really lucky to be alive”; which entertained my parents and grandparents no end.
Late in February I will turn fifty. The reality of what it means to be 50 is nothing like I imagined it to be aged 8, let alone in my 20s, 30s or even 40s.
“Pioneers of Ageing”
One of my dearest friends described our generation as the “pioneers of ageing”. It is so true. We have so much more knowledge, insight and tools at our disposal. There are such innovations in science, medicine and health; and in terms of nutrition, what we know now about how food affects the way we age is phenomenal compared even to when I started out 15 years ago.
When I look around at my close friends who I have known for 25+ years I realise they have grown into these strong, glossy, inspiring, savvy women. They are mothers, entrepreneurs, experts in their field and social commentators. Age brings life experience which is a beautiful thing.
Yet, there is still so much negative spin on ageing. The language is: “anti-ageing”, “fighting-the signs of ageing”. And I admit, I find my self-talk sometimes turning towards the negative as regards my own ageing, despite the fact that I feel fitter, stronger and happier than I have at any other time in my life. With lockdowns and closed borders I am unable to celebrate my birthday in the way I had planned, but I have decided on a different way to celebrate.
During February, I want to look at how we can reframe and celebrate ageing and share some of the nutrition tools to do that.
Here is what I have planned.
A series for Instagram Lives with friends chatting about their stories, how they are pushing the boundaries of what they believed was possible and becoming better versions of themselves.
The first one is Thursday 4th February @ 5pm UK time with Rae from FWP (The French Wine Project www.fwpbyrae.com) who I have known since our early 20s.
I will be doing a Live every week during the month.
I will be sharing my top 5 foods for pro-ageing plus some other helpful handouts and tools on here. So, please keep an eye on your inbox for those.
I am releasing a book I have self-published all about my grandparents (on the other side!). It is something I have been working on for 19 years and their stories are the inspiration behind my fascination with food and the brain.
This is a bit different from the information I have shared with you so far, but I am really excited about what is coming up this month, I hope you can join me and enjoy what I will be sharing.
In health and happiness
Ange
